The Natural Language Processing Group is a research group at the University of Alicante focused on Natural Language Processing as main topic. Our goal is to bring computers closer to the human language in order to facilitate the understanding between humans and machines, and replace mechanical tasks with high-productive ones.
For this reason, we have put our efforts, together with our knowledge and experience, into the development of cutting-edge applications and tools of great potential for the society. Besides being able to transfer these tools and applications to companies, the group carries out leading research in this area.
Since the initiative of a small number of professors of the Departament of Languages and Computer Systems (DLSI) in 1993, the group has been growing steadily, thanks to the effort and motivation of all its members. Currently, the group has more than thirty members.
Within the group there has been a number of already finished Ph.D. Thesis. They address different issues related to the research areas the group focuses on, such as the resolution of the ambiguity at a lexical, referential and structural level, or Information Retrieval and Question Answering systems, fitting in with the research lines of our group.
Our research has been funded by a number of European, national, regional and private projects, thus resulting in a high number of publications in the best-known research forums and means of communications, thanks to our constant and active participation in the most relevant conferences of our research area.
Do not forget to visit our products section, where we show applications of our research which are already up, running and available on request.
